Umbrian tales

The Pomegranate Tree

At a certain point in my Gardening career I spent some time working on an Estate in Umbria, Italy.

Whilst going about my work each day I noticed an overgrown tangle next to one of the woodsheds. The overgrown tangle intrigued me and I was determined to discover what lay underneath because clearly something did. I noticed surprisingly fresh green leaves that had managed to break free seeking the warmth of the sun.

One day I set about freeing up the prisoner within and as I selectively trimmed and pruned I was overjoyed to reveal  a rather elegant and surprisingly healthy Pomegranate tree.

I often returned before work and at the end of the working day to adjust my handiwork or just to admire it.

I had discovered my passion for pruning.
